New Drywall Installation for Remodels & Additions
For additions, garage conversions, ADUs, basement finish-outs, and full remodels, we hang, tape, float, and finish to Level 4 by default and Level 5 for walls that will receive gloss paint or raking light. Ceilings are hung perpendicular to joists with screws on 12-inch centers.
We install standard 1/2-inch, moisture-resistant green board for wet areas, cement board behind tile, Type X 5/8-inch fire-rated board where code requires it, and sound-rated assemblies for media rooms and shared walls in duplex builds.
All framing is checked for plumb and crown before rock goes up; we will shim or plane rather than float an out-of-plane wall flat with mud. That extra hour of prep is why our finished walls do not telegraph joints a year later.

We cut back to dry, sound substrate (not just the visible stain), dry the cavity with air movers for 48–72 hours, treat framing with an EPA-registered antimicrobial when warranted, and only then rebuild with new rock, tape, and texture.
Ceiling patches get special attention: we sister or block behind the opening so the patch has a rigid perimeter, screw on 8-inch centers, and tape with paper rather than mesh for a stronger joint that will not crack when the HVAC cycles.
